Daken: Welcome to You Are Your Name. This is Daken Ariel, your host. I have a special guest today, Sharolie Maxwell. Thank you for joining the podcast, Sharolie.
Sharolie: Thank you, Daken. It's nice to be with you.
Daken: So how long have you been using cycles, Sharolie?
Sharolie: Well, I was born into the Kabalarian Philosophy. My grandmother was a Kabalarian. My mother was a Kabalarian. And so the Philosophy has been part of my whole life, as have cycles. And I was thinking back to when I first thought about cycles or when they were a part of my life and it made me think of my grandmother. She was a very strong woman and very determined. And she lived her life by the Cyclic Law.
So if she was going to go out to go grocery shopping in the day, she'd always say, "Well, I can go grocery shopping anytime. But I'm going to pick a good time for me to go out in my car, a safe time, a time that it will work out best." So I would go with her, and she would pick a time based on the cycle, and off we would go. And she would have that confidence there would always be a parking spot right at the front door, because she knew if she picked the right time of day, everything would work out. The sale would be there, the right sale. She always did it based on cycles.
So from a very young age, it was quite impressive to me that if you did something at the right time, you would have the right result. So very, very young, I understood that. Even in school. School wasn't my favorite thing to do. But I knew if I picked the right time to give a talk or, or do it, and I was able to plan it, then it would work out for me. I didn't like studying, but I knew if I picked a 4-day or a 4-hour to study in, I could get it all done in a really short time because I would have the concentration to do it. So it was just figuring out from a young age that doing the right thing at the right time gave you the best result.
Daken: Now, you've been in business for quite awhile. I would call you a serial entrepreneur. You've started many businesses and built them up and then sold them. Have you used cycles in your business career as well?
Sharolie: Every single day. I think it's the most important thing that I could say my mother, who is my business partner, and I have used in our business. It's the key thing that we use every single day. We use it from the planning stage to the execution to the final. We've started many businesses, and we've built up many businesses, and we've sold many businesses. And it's all based on the Cyclic Law. So when we start a business, we plan the right cycle to start it in. And usually it's a 1-cycle because that's a seeding time.
This year, for the very first time, I'm doing a vegetable garden. And I've enjoyed it from the Cyclic Law of it. And so you plant that seed at the right time and you plant it deep, and it just sticks with you forever. And it grows and blossoms. So the same thing with business or with your own personal cycle. If you start something at the right time, it invariably will work. It doesn't always work exactly as you plan, but it will work.
I think back to some of the things that I've done in the 1-cycle of my life. The first one was when I was 17 years old. I wanted to move to Vancouver to finish my schooling. It was a big decision for my family and for me and it was difficult because I was still young. But I was in the right cycle, and I went to my parents and explained what I wanted to do. And they recognized the cycle, and they allowed me to do it. They helped me to do it. And that was a move that changed my whole life.
So I think back to that 1-cycle. I think if I hadn't made that decision in my life, what would my life be like? And every 1-cycle, I try to think back to that. Many times we bought a home in that cycle. The home I'm living in now, I bought it in my 1-cycle. And I've been here 22 years. It has brought me such joy, such happiness. It's brought other people happiness because we bought it with the idea of having people at our home. It's been a excellent financial vehicle because it's gone up in value every year. And it's been a wonderful home to run our business in. And so all of those things, if you do the right thing in the right time, you are successful.
2-cycle, I think back to the times in my life where we have made decisions based with people. My husband was in business for many years. And he had a big business and it was with many people. And he said, "You know, I want to figure out how to bring the people together." So I said, "Let's have a party." So that party started in a 2-cycle. So we planned it so that every single person in the business came. And it was a business where there was a factory floor, there were managers, there were big managers, and none of them knew each other. And that was the problem in the business. So I said, "Why don't we get them all together?" So I planned the party at our home and we had everyone there. There were maybe 100 people there. And it was a big catalyst to a change in the business where everyone came together. That was a very key learning time because you learn if you bring people together in that cycle, growth happens. Just like a seed. Once that seed has been planted in the garden, it has to grow. So it grows from the base.
3-cycle is a happy cycle. And my most memorable time of a 3-cycle is when we had our children and grandchildren move into our home with us for that year. And we ran our business from the home. We had the children at the house. And it was a chaotic year. But really one of the most happy cycles of my life.
4-cycle, the key of the 4-cycles that I can remember are the decisions that I did not make. And those were the decisions I decided not to sell a home or not to sell a business. And those were the right decisions. In the 4-cycle, you build the base and you keep growing, strengthening, getting everything organized. And I remember my brother walked away from a home in his 4-cycle, and it was the very worst thing that he could have done in his life. That was many, many years ago, but it stayed with me. So sometimes making the decision to not do something is the best thing you can do in a 4-cycle. Just build on what you've already done.
5-cycle memories, I can think of times when we have expanded our business. I remember one time when we thought, "This is the, the right direction to go." And we had started the business in the 1-year. And we went in a new direction in the 5 cycle. And it built the business even bigger, better. And that was impressive because you think it's new growth in the 5-year. It wasn't a new business, but it was new growth. And it was a successful decision.
So the Cyclic Law is all about making that proper decision based on the intelligence of that law. So following the cycles has been a part of my life forever. It's like having a best friend beside you to make that decision. You think it's easier to make a decision with someone beside you to help you. Well, the Cyclic Law is your very best friend because it helps you to make an informed, intelligent decision in every part of your life.
Many businesses we have sold in an 8-cycle. So then you get the very best opportunity out of that 8-cycle. I have one very vivid memory of an 8-cycle where my husband and I sold a vacation home. I was in my 8-cycle. It was when the business in the world was growing. Everything was growing. Everything was going up and we thought, "Well, it was maybe time that, for us to sell." And a gentleman came along who wanted a vacation home for himself. I found out later he was in a 4-cycle. So it wasn't a time for him to make the decision. So we sold it in our 8-cycle. Worked out great for us. In four years or we had doubled, or five years, we had doubled the money on the house. It was great.
For him, buying it in his 4-cycle, about two weeks after we sold it there was a hurricane in Florida and the house was badly damaged. And right after that, the business cycle went down. It was 2008. And the house went back to its original value, which was half the price that he paid. And so for him, it was the wrong decision at the wrong time. So that was a very vivid thing for me. And it has been proven in my life so many times how just utilizing the benefit of the Cyclic Law is the key to success in every part of your life. Not just financial success, but success in your family life, in everything you do.
When you go on holiday, for instance, I never would go on holiday. I'd never start a holiday on a 4-cycle day. I'd always do it on a proper day for travel. Because I've learned through the past in starting even a small business trip on a 4 day, there are challenges. If you start it in a good cycle for traveling, 1 or 2 day, then everything works out. There are no little challenges. And it isn't that you have to have a big major issue on it if you start it on a 4 day, it's just harder. So why not do things at the right time so that it makes everything easier?
So those are some of the lessons that I've learned by following the Cyclic Law.
Daken: Thank you, Sharolie. I was thinking about how time management always focuses on the best use of the quantity of time, and really the Cyclic Law gives you the quality of time. Do you have any final comments, Sharolie, now that you've painted a picture of how you use cycles and how important they have been?
Sharolie: Well, I couldn't encourage your listening audience any more than to say that the cycles have had the greatest impact in my life. I've been following the Cycle Charts my whole life. But the app now is a marvelous tool to use because it's right there every day. When you get out of bed in the morning and you look outside, you say, " What's the weather like? I'll wear a T-shirt or I think I'll wear short sleeves." And then you go onto your weather app and it says, it's going to rain in the afternoon. And if you'd worn those short sleeves you'd have been awfully wet.
And it's the same with the Cycle Chart app. You look at that Cycle Chart app every morning and it gives you a map for the day. And if you look at that map and you follow that map over the course of your life, you will recognize how the cycles will allow your life to grow in ways you never thought possible. When I think about the app in my life that is the very most important app, it is the Cycle Chart app. Because when you go onto that app, it helps you with your life.
We create our life through our thinking, and so as our thinking grows and deepens and expands, where we're not just thinking about ourselves, but we're thinking about how we can make life better, how we can add to life, how our actions and our thoughts will make a difference in life.
It comes right back to that Cycle Chart app where you make day by day progress in life, and all of a sudden you're not living for yourself. You're living for the growth of life itself. Wars are created by people, and so is peace. And we are here to create peace in life, add back to life, and grow in ways that we can help our fellow man. That's the purpose of the Kabalarian Philosophy. And that's the ultimate purpose of the Cycle Chart app.
Daken: Thank you, Sharolie. Really appreciate your insight.
Sharolie: Thank you, Daken. It was nice to be with you.
Daken Ariel: If you'd like to learn more about the Cyclic Law, you can download our free app, which is called Cycle Chart, on either the Android or Apple Store. Set up a free account. You can create an account with your email address or your Gmail or your Apple account, or even your cell phone number.
All you have to do is give it your month and date of birth, and it will configure your personal cycle information for a five-month window, the current month, plus two months in the future and two months in the past. So that should give you a chance to evaluate your cycles relative to the months, days, and years. So until then, happy thoughts!
