INTERVIEW:

Daken: Welcome to Season 3 of You Are Your Name. In this season, we are asking a Kabalarian Name Consultant various questions on balanced names.

My guest today is Garrett Henigan. Thank you Garrett, for joining us.

Garett: Quite welcome. And it's great to be here.

Daken: So Garrett, as a member of the staff, you get people from all over the world calling for balanced names. One of the questions you get is what we're going to cover today. "My country doesn't allow a legal name change. What can I do?"

Garett: Well, it's a very good question and it's an interesting challenge in today's world. There are many countries where a name change is a process done through various application forms, publications in newspapers. And it's, you know, can take from 30 days to 90 days depending on where you live.

But unfortunately there are some countries which do not do a legal name change. And I just wanted to kind of clarify saying a legal name change. We might just paraphrase that and say a formal name change. Because there is no illegal name change. There's just a name change. And so, to do it formally is what we're talking about so that the different government departments know that you've changed its name.

And so, in countries where they don't allow this formal name change, what the options are is that you have to assume an alias and do some form of statutory declaration. Because really what it is, it's your decision that you are the name. That is the most important part. So, let's say you're in North America where it's easy to do a name change. You have to decide that you are the new name. And you, in a sense, take that name change as far as you can within the legal system that you currently live in.

But in North America, if you said, "Oh, I'm going to change my name." And then you don't go and actually do it formally or legally. Well, did you really make that decision? Because it's like you're kind of on the fence. "Well, I'm taking this name on, but you know, not going to do it formally / legally." And so that would indicate that you really haven't made the full decision. So in North America people make decision. They are that new balanced name, and then they do the next step of getting the paper that they were Mary Brown and now they're Judy Brown or whatever, that new balanced name. They advise their banks. They change your credit cards. They go through that somewhat tedious process, but those are essential steps, in a sense, of planting your flag on the top of the hill. "This is who I am." And changing your passport and some of these processes do take a bit of time. But in the end, there is this conclusion that you have established that balanced name.

And it starts with that first decision, to when you finally get that paperwork from the government, to the time you have your all your ID driver's license in your new name. They're all incremental steps in establishing that balanced name in jurisdictions where you can do it.

So in countries where you cannot do the legal part, then the alternative is to do, in a sense, your own declaration that you were this name. You are now that name. To summarize, you make the decision on that new balanced name, you establish it to the extent you can in the jurisdiction country that you're in. And that may be going through all the paperwork, getting all your ID, and you've established that name. And that's as far as you can do in many countries.

If you cannot do that, the recommendation is to do some type of statutory declaration. It's like you are formalizing your name. You're, in a sense, announcing it to your friends. You might have to get it notarized or something like that. Just to make it clear that you are that name. Now if the government does not allow the changing of records, then you may have to deal with them and say, "Well, it's just the reality of your life." But you have formalized it to the degree that you can in your particular country or jurisdiction.

Daken: Now some countries will have some restrictions on what names you can choose. They'll say it has to be these specific names. In that case, would the office work on that list and see which ones are balanced. Therefore they can choose the best name of what they're able to work with?

Garett: Yes, there are some countries where there are only certain names that you can pick. Which again, makes it more challenging. But the office staff and the specialists will work with you in those special cases to find the names that that they will accept. Sometimes there can be the odd spelling changed to one of their names. But it's a case by case basis and we just have to do our best in those circumstances.

But there are some countries which there's no name change. So you have to do this notarization. And also even in North America where it's easy to change a name, there may be some type of legal impediment that the person cannot change their name. They can be going through a divorce, or some other legal procedure that they cannot do it at that exact time. Or there's children involved. There's all sorts of various factors.

And again, as long as you're not using that in as an excuse not to legally change your name, you've done as much as you can at the current time. And as time unfolds, you'll be able to do that formal name change, that's the important thing.

Daken: And the Kabalarian Name Consultants will work with them to help them get the best solution to their particular country issues relative to formal name change?

Garett: That's right. We'll help you. And the office staff, we want the best for you for your Spark to express that inner potential. And the change of name and the establishment of that new balanced name within the context of your country jurisdiction is very important to us. And so we want to help you and so that you have the benefit of that change.

Daken: It is interesting on the internet, if you ask, "How do I change my name?" They do say there are two ways. One is the formal process going through the government and the other is through usage.

Garett: Exactly.

Daken: And so that relates back to your point about making a statutory declaration and then using that consistently. And even if you have to use your legal,  what is the government version of your name on those particular forms you do, but you're also known (AKA) as and then the balanced name.

Garett: That's right. And so, you are your name that you choose. It's that decision that you make to I say that, "I am that name," is really the most important thing and has to be at the core of everything you do after that to establish that name through usage or through the administrative legal channels.

Daken: Great. I think that's clear enough. Thank you, Garrett, for your time.

Garett: Glad I could help. I just encourage all the listeners to look into the balanced name and what it could do to change your life, to improve your life, and to make your life all that it can be.

Daken: Garrett will be back on another episode covering the question, "Why is the sample name analysis only partially correct? By the way, I was named using a different language other than English."

So we will look forward to that next week. Thanks again, Garrett.
